The QCS 2018 Outstanding Marketing Awards

The QCS Outstanding Marketing Awards honor industry member and supply partner organizations whose creative marketing efforts and campaigns have stood out and earned attention in the ever-changing foods manufacturing industry.

One top award will be given for Outstanding Marketing Campaign–Member, and one top award will be given for Outstanding Marketing Campaign–Supply Partner. Additional awards will be given in the categories specified below.

Members

  1. Outstanding Marketing Campaign (grand-prize category)
  2. Best Print Collateral (brochures, direct mail, sales sheets, print ads, billboards, etc.)
  3. Best Digital Marketing (digital ads, websites, microsites, social media marketing, videos, blogs, email marketing, etc.)
  4. Best New Packaging (package design, packaging materials, etc.)

Supply Partners

  1. Outstanding Marketing Campaign (grand-prize category)
  2. Best Print Collateral (print ads, brochures, catalogs, direct mail, etc.)
  3. Best Digital Marketing (digital ads, websites, microsites, social media marketing, videos, blogs, email marketing, etc.)
  4. Best Event or Trade Show (booth design, landing pages, microsites, direct mail, print collateral, videos, premium items, digital ads, etc.)

Eligibility Requirements

The QCS Outstanding Marketing Awards are open to in-house, agency and independent communication professionals that are members or supply partners of QCS Purchasing (including Quality Chekd, SECO and Allied Purchasing). You may enter your work, the work of your organization or work you have completed on behalf of your customer (supply partners).

This year's program is open to any work executed between Aug. 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018.

Aug. 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. Central

Entry Fees

The standard fee for each individual entry for general categories is $150.

The standard entry fee for grand-prize categories is $250. Each entry for the grand-prize categories must include a minimum of three components.

Your company will be invoiced after entry submission. Entry fees are nonrefundable.

Marketing Award Category Descriptions and Criteria

A panel of independent food and beverage industry leaders will evaluate and score each entry. This year, our panel will be divided into two teams: Judges from Charleston|Orwig will critique entries from QCS Purchasing members, and judges from Stephan & Brady Marketing Communications will critique entries from QCS Purchasing supply partners.

The maximum point value for each section varies depending on the award category. Please see the category descriptions below for the descriptions and maximum point values for each award category.

Member Category Descriptions and Criteria

Outstanding Marketing Campaign (grand-prize category)

This award honors campaigns that deliver excellence through multiple channels. Entries must include a minimum of three campaign elements. Entries must provide clear objectives and rationale, as well as creative synergy across all activity and elements, resulting in demonstrable value gained. Elements of integrated campaigns may include landing pages or microsites, direct mail pieces, print collateral, videos, social media marketing, public relations, digital ads, etc. Criteria for this award are weighed as follows:

  • Objectives: 10 points
  • Execution: 35 points
  • Design: 20 points
  • Results: 35 points

Best Print Collateral

This award recognizes creative and effective print materials, such as brochures, direct mail, sales sheets, print ads, billboards, etc. Criteria for this award are weighed as follows:

  • Objectives: 30 points
  • Design: 70 points

Best Digital Marketing

This award recognizes creative and effective digital marketing efforts, such as digital ads, websites, microsites, social media marketing, videos, blogs, email marketing, etc. Criteria for this award are weighed as follows:

  • Objectives: 30 points
  • Design: 70 points

Best New Packaging

This award honors innovative packaging and materials, highlighting the importance and value of packaging design for brands in today’s world. Criteria for this award are weighed as follows:

  • Objectives: 30 points
  • Design: 70 points

How to Enter

On the entry form, include a thorough synopsis for each of the sections below (whenever applicable), explaining the purpose and scope of your project. The synopsis for each section is limited to 750 characters.

  1. Objectives (all categories): Describe the marketing or public relations situation and the objectives you set out to accomplish with this project.
  2. Execution (grand-prize categories only): Explain the marketing approach and implementation process. Please keep the explanation straightforward and include the messaging rationale for the project. For grand-prize categories, include a list of campaign or event/trade show elements.
  3. Design (all categories): Explain the design approach and the creative rationale for the project.
  4. Results (grand-prize categories only): What results did you achieve and how did you measure them? Simply put, how did your project perform? Carefully tie your results back to your objectives. If results differed from your objectives, explain why. Also include any unplanned events that may have directly affected your results.

Be sure to follow the guidelines laid out in the category descriptions, as the judges will look for those elements when selecting winners.

Submission of Supporting Creative and Reporting Files

Acceptable File Types and Zip File Submission

We encourage you to enter press releases, design concepts, videos, campaign analytics, testimonials and any other relevant materials you believe will give the judges a better sense of your project. You may also include proprietary or internal information, which will not be shared publicly.

Creative and data files for the grand-prize categories must be uploaded in a zip file (.zip). Acceptable file types:

If you are submitting entries for more than one category or multiple entries in the same category, be sure to complete a separate entry form for each submission and upload a separate zip file for each submission. Multiple files related to a single grand-prize category entry should be submitted in the same zip file.

Submit Files Digitally via Dropbox

For every award submission, you must provide an electronic submission folder. Each submission shall be uploaded as a digital submission in your personalized Dropbox folder(s), which QCS Purchasing will invite you to after you submit your entry form(s). Projects will be judged from the electronic submission materials.

Here's how it works:

  1. For the company contact on the online submission entry form, please include the name of the person in charge of uploading all submission criteria to Dropbox.
  2. Once QCS Purchasing receives your submission entry form, we will email you an invitation to a personalized Dropbox folder for each entry. If you are entering more than one project or category, you will receive an email invitation to a separate folder for each project.
  3. On your computer, create a folder for each submission (all files for grand-prize entries should be collected in one folder) and create a zip file of the folder.
  4. For each project or category entry, please include the following in a zip file folder, which you will upload to the appropriate Dropbox folder:
    • Project summary sheet, which should include links to any video files you are submitting
    • Relevant files for the project or campaign, including images, PDFs, presentations, data, etc.
  5. Click the Dropbox link on your email invitation and upload the zip file.

Materials that cannot be uploaded via Dropbox should be mailed to:
